This year, we are expecting over 1000 runners at the 2008 5K Run / Walk for Autism. This run is one of our annual events to help raise funds and public awareness in the Central Virginia region about Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Autism is a life long developmental disability now affecting 1 in 150 children. According to the Virginia Department of Education, there were 6,753 students with autism ages 0-22 in Virginia in 2006. There are also many adults in Virginia living with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Your support can help us provide critical information to families to help them deal with the challenges of living with an individual with ASD. The Autism Society of America Central Virginia Chapter (ASACV) depends on the generosity of donors like you. The money raised from the 5K Run / Walk for Autism helps provide scholarships for Richmond area children with Autism Spectrum Disorders to attend specially designed summer camps. In addition, the proceeds fund workshops and educational seminars for families and professionals dealing with ASD and provide education and support to our local community. We hope you will take this opportunity to show your support for our families that live with the challenges of ASD with a generous donation as well as encouraging all your friends to join us in the “Run for Autism”!
